The Hand/Upper Extremity and Trauma teams in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine were awarded a grant to help fund their multicenter prospective study on the treatment of proximal humerus fractures. This grant was sponsored by the AAOS (American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons) in conjunction with the ASES (American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons) and was only awarded to two institutions in the country.

Glyn Palmer, PhD, assistant professor in the UF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine research division, is using 3D printing technology to develop a functional liver tissue model that enables screening for liver toxicity of compounds found in drug therapies.
This one week seminar is an immersion experience in basic musculoskeletal pathology, correlated with radiographic and imaging staging techniques, histologic diagnosis, and principles of treatment covering the gamut of musculoskeletal lesions.
R. James Toussaint, MD, associate professor and chief of the foot and ankle division at UF Orthopaedics, is using 3D printing technology in total talus and ankle replacement surgery. The 3D printed talus is composed of cobalt and chrome alloy customized to the patient specific anatomy. This allows for a faster recovery and excellent range of motion after surgery.
