In the sport of football, the Quarterbacks, Receivers, and Running backs seems to get all of the attention. These are the guys that fill up a box score and produce the exciting stuff to talk about and there are certainly a lot of those guys here in North Central Florida that produce big numbers. However, if not for the big boys up front protecting the backfield, success isn’t possible. Riding a three game winning streak, the Eastside Rams have beaten Trinity Catholic, Williston, and this past week Dunnellon to improve to 4-2 on the year and a big part of that success comes from Offensive Lineman Ibrahem Shaer and his buddies up front. At 6’4” 290 pounds, Shaer has maybe the most important job on the field, protecting the blind side of the quarterback and the sophomore has done it great this season.
Despite a hit earlier this year that sent him to the hospital, Shaer has worked extremely hard to return from that injury and get back on the field with his Ram teammates. One of the leaders on the team, he has resurrected the O-Line and constantly goes all out each and every play. Eastside’s 14-12 conference victory over Dunnellon was big in the quest for a district championship for the Rams and it also earned Ibrahem Shaer the honor of this week’s UF Health Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine High School Athlete of the Week.
