Pediatric Orthopaedics Fellowship

The mission of The University of Florida/Shriners Pediatric Orthopedic Fellowship is to cultivate compassionate, technically skilled, and independent practitioners dedicated to the care of children. Through a patient-centered approach and exposure to a broad spectrum of pediatric orthopedic pathologies, our program prepares fellows to address the unique needs of our young patients with empathy and excellence.

Established in 1960 as an Orthopedic Division by William F. Enneking, UF Orthopaedics achieved Departmental status in 1975. In 2004 the Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Institute opened as a 127,000 sq foot facility. Expansion of care continues with the expansion of the Florida Surgical Center and Children’s Surgical Center adjacent to the OSMI facility.

Gainesville is located in central Florida and like most University towns has an upbeat and active vibe. The commutes by foot, bike, scooter or car are short and cost of living is very affordable. There is an abundance of activities for the active lifestyle and enough cultural options for the busy fellow to strike a nice balance!

The drives to the Gulf shore is less than 90 minutes and the Atlantic beaches are less than 2 hours. Walt Disney Resort/Universal and Epcot is less than 2 hours for the thrill seekers with or without children!

Accreditation and Support

The University of Florida/Shriners Pediatric Fellowship is POSNA accredited. A board eligible, Florida-licensed fellow would be able to supplement income by working in the orthopedic urgent care clinic.

The fellow is generously supported at a PGY6 level and the Graduate Medical Education Committee is available to support the fellow. We have two full-time education coordinators.
