The UF Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Institute (OSMI) is proud to offer a 3D printing service. This service is available to both the University of Florida Campus and the general public.
3D Printing information
Ortho utilizes a variety of Prusa Research 3D printers at our facility.
- Our 3D printers utilize FFF (fused filament fabrication) technology (also known as FDM, or fused deposition modeling).
- Resin-based 3D printing is NOT available
- Metal-based 3D printing is NOT available
- Custom quotes are generated for each 3D Print request.
- Prints cost $0.15 per gram of filament used
- There is a $5 minimum charge.

- The largest maximum print dimensions we currently accommodate are:
- Approximately 360mm × 360mm × 360mm (14" × 14" ×14").
- The largest maximum print dimensions we currently accommodate are:
- Print completion times vary per a 3D object's size, complexity, and layer height requested.
- Once you have accepted/paid for your custom quote, we will provide a good faith estimate of when your 3D print will be available for pick-up.
- Please note - we try to allow for extra time in the case of model print failures and other abnormal conditions/anomalies.
- 3D Prints submitted after 5pm will not be reviewed until the next business day.
- 3D Prints submitted on weekends and holidays will not be reviewed until the next business day.
- Once you have accepted/paid for your custom quote, we will provide a good faith estimate of when your 3D print will be available for pick-up.
- 3D Print pick-ups are available Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm (with the exception of UF observed Holidays)
Material Options
We utilize PLA (polylactic acid) filaments with our 3D Printers.
- A variety of colors is often available
- Multi-color 3D prints are available.
- 3D models should be prepared for multi-color use prior to submitting
- Additional 3D print completion time required
- Additional filament use required to provide accurate color separation (often referred to as a purge block/tower)
