
Profile Information
Jonathan Wright, MD, earned his medical degree in 2015 from the Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine before going on to complete his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at William Beaumont Hospital outside of Detroit, MI. He came to the University of Florida following completion of residency to pursue a fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow surgery and work as a staff member within the Orthopaedic division.
Dr. Wright's clinical practice focuses on the upper extremity, from the clavicle down to the elbow. He performs both arthroscopic and open surgeries, including computer-navigated primary and revision shoulder replacements, primary and revision arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs, arthroscopic labral repairs, elbow arthroscopy, primary and revision elbow replacements, and Tommy John surgery among many other procedures.
He has published various works in several of the top Orthopaedic Surgery journals including the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Family of Journals, The Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, and The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, and he has received research funding from AOTrauma North America.
He is a member of several national organizations including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons. Additionally, he serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.
Dr. Wright currently holds the title of Assistant Professor at the University of Florida in the Department of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation. He also serves our country’s veterans at the Malcom Randall Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida.

Dr. Wright’s research endeavors have included both clinical and translational research. He has worked on multiple published studies assessing outcomes following shoulder arthroplasty and continues to pursue studies along with the other shoulder surgeons at the University of Florida looking at pre- and post-operative factors that affect patient outcomes.
He was the primary investigator on a grant from AOTrauma North America investigating the use of a novel antibiotic coating to prevent pin-tract infections and is currently involved in a clinical trial assessing the efficacy of hydrogen peroxide application to the deep dermis during shoulder arthroplasty to reduce C. acnes contamination.
