About David Tran
I’m David Tran, MD, a primary care sports medicine physician with UF Health Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. Born and raised in a Canadian border city across from Detroit, my academic journey has taken me all over the United States. I received my medical degree from the Windsor University School of Medicine in the West Indies in 2017. I then completed a post-doctorate research fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston in 2017. In 2023, I completed a residency in family medicine at Baptist Health – University of Arkansas Medical Sciences in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Following my residency, I finished a primary care sports medicine fellowship at Altru Health System in Grand Forks, North Dakota, in 2023.
I’m excited to start my next chapter in Florida and bring my passion for sports medicine to UF Health. I’ve always had great joy in helping people overcome their challenges in health, function, or life. With my background in primary care and sports medicine, I get to combine my love for healing and movement to enrich people's lives. Together, we can make a difference and improve your ailments holistically, where your physical and mental well-being are valued. As part of the Ocala community, I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to continue to empower patients to recover, perform at their best, and thrive in their lives.
I believe medicine is about connection. Every patient has their own story, and I strive to approach everyone with a holistic and caring mindset, focusing on their unique goals and circumstances. Whether it’s helping someone get back to their favorite activities or finding innovative ways to manage pain, I always aim to empower my patients to take charge of their health together as a team. I want my patients to know that I emphasize collaboration and education in every interaction, ensuring patients are informed, supported, and confident in our steps together. My approach is not just about solving immediate problems but fostering long-term health and resilience. I strive for excellence and for the privilege of becoming your trusted primary care sports medicine physician, one who recognizes the value of preventive and orthopaedic care, and who understands that a patient’s health extends beyond their temporary ailment.
When I'm not in the clinic, I enjoy spending time with my immediate family and friends. Discovering new cultures and cuisines through travel is another way to stay inspired and connected to the world. I'm always trying to discover new local restaurants and attend regional events, as it's a wonderful opportunity to appreciate and participate in the community. I enjoy staying active by weightlifting and jogging and am graciously looking forward to exploring the natural wonders of the beautiful state of Florida.

Award for showcasing excellence, the most outstanding visiting resident physician in the emergency room of the month at Arkansas’ only Pediatric Trauma Level 1 Teaching Hospital in the State, where hundreds of visiting residents rotate through monthly for their respective Pediatric Emergency Medicine training.

Dr. Tran was really excellent! He explained what was going on in my shoulder with illustrations and real X-rays. He showed me a comparison of my shoulder X-ray against a normal shoulder. He really helped me understand why I was doing the PT that I was. He followed up with an injection to my shoulder and a plan to see him in 3 months. He’s definitely a keeper.

Friendly. Caring. Dr. Tran listened and carefully examined the injured area, then explained in detail what the X-rays revealed. He also used images from a tablet/app to show the area of the injury which made it very easy to understand. He reassured me that there's no serious damages and scheduled a followup appointment in case the pain doesn't go away. He is truly an expert in his field. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

He explain and showed me, per computer imaging, my shoulder x-ray. Showing the cause of the pain and immobility that I was experiencing. Dr. Tran and the sports therapist, Rebecca, were absolutely phenomenal. My daughter has seen several doctors in regardless to her chronic ankle issues and no other doctor has listened to her, validated her concerns, empowered her, and educated her like he and Rebecca, the sports therapist, did. She left feeling like there's hope for her injuries that she hasn't had in years.

Dr. Tran was exceptional, he explained everything to me, showed me both my xray results and what normal xray results look like. He really listened to my concerns and we discussed treatment options. He offered me options and I'm very pleased with the plan he has in place. As well he really listened to my pain concerns and offered great non-opiate alternatives. Dr.Tran came up with a good plan of action for my care, educated me about the issue with my ankle. He also had met with the UF pharmacist to get input on the new apothecary system that physicians will have access to to care for patients. So, we discussed a plan using a medication from the apothecary side of the pharmacy once it is up and running. I will be one of first patients to try this. I am happy that Dr. Tran looked outside the box for me to get relief. And he took time to educate me on the apothecary end from his knowledge from the pharmacist. I'm grateful for the team effort. This will be exciting in future care for many patients.
