Orthopaedic Oncology Fellowship Research

Our Musculoskeletal Oncology Fellowship places a strong emphasis on academic productivity and the development of research competency. Each fellow participates in mentored scholarly projects designed to strengthen skills in study design, data analysis, and scientific writing, with the goal of producing at a minimum, one manuscript suitable for publication by the end of the fellowship year. Fellows select two research projects at the start of the year, which may include original ideas, faculty-initiated studies, or continuation of ongoing work. Research progress is reviewed in monthly meetings, where fellows present brief updates and receive feedback from faculty mentors.

In addition to departmental projects, fellows have access to collaborative research opportunities across the UF College of Medicine and other colleges within the university. The program maintains strong interdisciplinary partnerships with departments such as Pathology, Radiology, and Molecular Oncology, providing a rich environment for clinical and translational research. Dedicated research support—including biostatistical consultation, IRB guidance, and data management resources—is available through the department, and fellows are encouraged to engage these resources early in their projects.

Fellows are also encouraged to present their work at national and international conferences, including MSTS, CTOS, and ISOLS.  The program actively supports and promotes conference participation as part of fellows’ academic growth and professional development, providing valuable exposure to the broader musculoskeletal oncology community and fostering collaboration and scholarly. engagement.
