Ryan Roach, MD, selected for prestigious FAOA Fellowship

The University of Florida Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine proudly announces that Ryan Roach, MD, MS, has been selected for the highly prestigious Fellows of the American Orthopaedic Association (FAOA) fellowship. This national distinction recognizes orthopaedic surgeons who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, scholarship, and service in the field.

Dr. Roach, a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and complex shoulder, hip, and knee surgery, serves as an assistant professor at UF Health and holds the Wayne Huizenga Endowed Professorship in Sports Medicine. He is also a team physician for the Florida Gators, and provides care to athletes ranging from local high school students to USA olympians.

A first-generation college graduate, Dr. Roach earned his Bachelor of Science from Purchase College, where he was a standout soccer player. He went on to obtain both his Master of Science in Cell and Molecular Biology and his Medical Degree from Tulane University, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Roach completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital, serving as executive chief resident, and furthered his training with a fellowship in sports medicine and arthroscopy at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama. During his fellowship, he served as an assistant team physician for the University of Alabama and the University of West Alabama.

Dr. Roach's clinical expertise encompasses a wide range of athletic injuries, including ACL tears, rotator cuff injuries, shoulder instability, hip impingement, and labral tears. He has a particular interest in the management of athletic hip pathology and has authored several publications and book chapters on related topics. His commitment to advancing orthopaedic care is evident through his active participation in national organizations such as the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.

The FAOA designation is awarded to orthopaedic surgeons who exemplify the highest standards of professional achievement and who have made meaningful contributions to the advancement of the field. Fellows engage in leadership development, strategic initiatives, and collaborative work aimed at addressing critical issues in musculoskeletal health care.

Dr. Roach's induction into the FAOA community marks a significant career milestone and affirms his leadership not only within UF but also across the national orthopaedic landscape.
