The OSMI welcomes Bruce Beynnon, PhD, McClure Professor of Musculoskeletal Research at the University of Vermont.  Dr. Beynnon will be presenting a talk to faculty and residents entitled, "Anterior Cruciate Ligament Trauma Has Lasting Effects on Knee Joint Health."

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Define and describe what is known about the incidence rates of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in college and high school athletes.
  • Define and describe the strain biomechanics of the normal ACL in response to activities that involve muscle contraction and weight bearing.
  • Define and describe how ACL injures are independently influenced by level of competition, type of sport, and an athletes sex.
  • Describe the changes in articular cartilage structure of the tibiofemoral joint that occur soon atier ACL injury and at four years following ACL reconstruction.
