The OSMI welcomes Mark D. Lazarus, MD, Associate Professor Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, The Rothman Institute, at Thomas Jefferson University.  Dr. Lazarus will be presenting a talk to faculty and residents entitled, "The Case Against Acromioplasty."

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize the prevalence of “impingement syndrome” as an orthopaedic diagnosis and the use of acromioplasty as a frequent treatment.
  • Identify that there is controversy with regard to “impingement syndrome” as a true clinical diagnosis or as a cause for the development of rotator cuff tear.
  • Assess the need for acromioplasty as a treatment for rotator cuff pain or as an associated procedure during rotator cuff repair.
