Health Policy Research by the UF Arthroplasty Division was selected for podium presentation at the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) Annual Meeting and was the lead off presentation to start the scientific program. This meeting is the premier annual meeting for hip and knee arthroplasty surgeons with about 4000 attendees. Selection for podium presentation is a rigorous and highly competitive process with only 3% of 1800 submissions being selected for presentation.
This featured research focused on an extensive patient centered care redesign over 5 years which resulted in significant improvements in all quality metrics to achieve the highest quality ranking by CMS, with top quintile performance. This contributed to the highest ranking ever for the UF Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine program in the US News and World Report rankings (26 of 4500 hospitals). Additionally, CMS realized significant financial savings from this work (approximately $16 million dollars over 5 years).
Dr Chancellor Gray presented the work on behalf of the UF Arthroplasty team.
