This past weekend the UF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine celebrated women in Orthopaedics with its first Perry Initiative medical outreach program. Students from 3 different states and 4 different programs participated.

The women had the chance to learn about fracture fixation, intramedullary nailing and external fixation from women in the field. They then received hands on experience in IM nailing and Ex-fix placement during a sawbones lab and even took home the femurs they fixed. They also received career guidance from Attendings and Residents from our program. We are proud to support women entering a field where females represent only 8% of currently practicing Orthopaedic Surgeons.
