Resistance Exercise for Older Adults
NEW RESISTANCE EXERCISE RESEARCH STUDIES FOR OLDER ADULTS:
The UF Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation has exciting opportunities for people 60 to 85 years to participate in exercise research for those who suffer from low back pain and are obese or who have been diagnosed with painful knee osteoarthritis. Exercise physiologist, Dr. Heather Vincent, and physician, Dr. Kevin Vincent, recently received NIH funding for two studies that are designed to improve physical function and decrease joint or low back pain for persons 60-85 years of age through resistance exercise.
Participants diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis will work with Dr. Kevin Vincent whose research studies how resistance exercise can help increase physical function as well as decrease joint pain in individuals who suffer from knee osteoarthritis. Participants who have low back pain will work with Dr. Heather Vincent who is studying how large-waisted older adults with low back pain respond to low back exercise or total body exercise.
If you or someone you know is 60-85 years, has knee or low back pain, and is interested in participating in one of these exercise studies, please contact Kelley Lamb at 352-273-8453 or lambkm@ortho.ufl.edu.
