The UFSPC and Shands PT collaborate with Easton in research assessment for Olympian archers.

The UF Sports Performance Center (UF SPC), located in the Human Dynamics Research Lab of the Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Institute, and Shands Physical Therapy will work together to provide the latest in sport assessment to the Olympic level Archers currently training at the Easton-Newberry Sports Complex. Many of these archers will be attending the 2012 Olympics. The UF SPC will proudly provide the state-of-the-art motion analyses, comprehensive body composition and medically-supervised exercise fitness testing. The UF research team in conjunction with Shands Physical Therapy plans to develop novel, innovative research projects in this elite athletic population.

Dr. Heather Vincent has been published in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics.

A recent study by Dr. Heather Vincent, PhD, has been published online in advance of the print edition of the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics. Her research is aimed to provide guidance for healthy eating, weight control, and obesity related issues.
The University of Florida then interviewed Dr. Vincent about the research study's findings: Eating more plant-based foods, which are rich in substances called phytochemicals, seems to prevent oxidative stress in the body, a process associated with obesity and the onset of disease.

Drs. Kevin and Heather Vincent present at the 2009 AAPMR meeting.

Dr. Kevin Vincent, MD, PhD, and Dr. Heather Vincent, PhD, recently attended the 2009 Annual Assembly of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation meeting in Austin, Texas, during October 23rd-25th, 2009.
On October 23rd, Kevin Vincent presented a workshop entitled: "Evaluation and Treatment of Exertional Leg Pain: Evidence Based Practice."
On October 24th, Heather and Kevin Vincent presented a poster grand rounds entitled: "The Impact of Body Mass Index and Abductor Brace Use on Inpatient Rehabilitation Outcomes Following Total Hip Arthroplasty."
Dr. Kennedy serves as guest faculty for 2009 AAPMR meeting.

Dr. DJ Kennedy, MD, Assistant Professor in the Physical Medicine Division of the UF Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Institue, served as guest faculty at the 2009 Annual Assembly of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation meeting in Texas during October 23rd-25th.

While serving as guest faculty, Dr. Kennedy presented a talk entitled, "Functional and Kinetic-Chain Based Exam of the Foot: Defining Subtalar Neutral and Pronated Foot".
OSMI provides optional valet service for patients.

To keep pace with the marked growth in patient visit volumes, The OSMI has partnered with Life Style Valet to provide optional valet car parking service for any visitors to the institute.
The service, which begins October 1, 2009, will be available during normal clinic hours in the front drive-up entrance.
Drs. Kevin and Heather Vincent receive the Scott F. Nadler Research Award.

Congratulations to Dr. Kevin Vincent, MD, PhD, and Dr. Heather Vincent, PhD, who have been selected to receive the 2009 Scott F. Nadler PASSOR Musculoskeletal Research and Education Award, for their outstanding proposal: "An Exploratory Study of Resistance Exercise Prehabilitation Effects on Physical Functions, Psychosocial Distress and Quality of Life Outcomes in Patients Undergoing Treatment of Soft Tissue Sarcoma."
The Foundation for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation will present the Drs. Vincent with an award and a check for $10,000.00 at the AAPM&R Annual Assembly Meeting in Austin, Texas during October 22nd-25th, 2009.
Dr. Indelicato elected as Vice President of the AOSSM.

Congratulations to Dr. Peter Indelicato, MD, for being elected to Vice President of the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine (AOSSM).
Founded in 1972, the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine is a national organization of orthopaedic surgeons dedicated to sports medicine. The AOSSM is recognized as a world leader in sports medicine education, research, communication, and fellowship.
